Exhibition Guide Introduction:

Have you ever had that feeling that you’ve forgotten something?  I’m sitting on a train on a hot July evening, wondering whether I’ve failed to do something and hope I will have remembered it by the time the Exhibition comes!

Anyway, coming up in this year’s show are many good-quality layouts and a wide variety of traders.  It is always difficult to balance sufficient layouts of various scales, gauges, sizes and eras against traders selling both new and second hand items.  We received numerous comments last year about this and all I can say is that the presence of the traders supports the considerable costs of bringing layouts from all over the country.  I hope we have got the balance right this year, but if we haven’t, please feel free to write in our Comments Book, situated at the Information Stands (No 4 & 46).

As usual, we are running our “Best Layout” competition and would encourage you to take a form from one of the Information Stands and vote for your favourite layout.  Why not try to win one of our fabulous prizes in the Hornby raffle (thanks to Hornby) – tickets are priced at £1, available from the Information Stands with the draw being held on Sunday afternoon.  We also have a tombola for that instant-win rush of adrenaline!

Much of our success comes from the great support of our sponsors and advertisers.  I would like to particularly thank Hornby for their continued support, plus PECO, AppleJ-ax of Hythe, Buckingham Covers and Golden Valley Cleaners.  This year we are grateful for the assistance of Kent Marine Cadet Force, Tonbridge and Canterbury  Model Railway Clubs and various other helpers who are staffing this event.

2010 will be a special year for the Club as it commemorates our 60th anniversary.  As part of the celebrations, we will be bringing back a few special layouts of particular relevance to the local area.  More information will appear on our website in due course (www.folkestone-mrc.com).

At the end of the Exhibition the words “It’s been a hard day’s night” ring true - when the public have gone and the great task of packing up in under 4 hours an exhibition which took 12 hours to physically set up has been completed and we can go home to recover.  Naturally this could not be completed without the many Club members and helpers who stay on after closing time to assist and I thank them for this.  We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s exhibition: 2 – 3 October 2010, unless of course you would like to join the Club, in which case please take a leaflet or speak to one of our club members.
