Welcome to our miniature world….
Here we are again – another year has flashed by and it’s time to welcome you to our annual exhibition, comparable in size to last year’s. This will be my tenth year organising the exhibition, some would say that I could have committed armed robbery and got a lesser sentence!
We have packed the Leas Cliff Hall with traders, societies and layouts covering all aspects of model railways and hope that you will find what you are looking for, whether it be products, inspiration or just evoking happy memories.
We have layouts from various parts of the country including Suffolk, Warwickshire, Plymouth, Yorkshire, The Isle of Wight and many places in between. Our traders stock a wide variety of railway and model railway products including DVDs, track, locomotives, kits, scenic components, electrical bits and pieces, tools and items for the younger generation.
As a club, we are always looking for new members, young and older alike – experienced or not. If you look around the exhibition today you will see the high quality of the layouts and displays and perhaps thinking “I could never do that”. Think again. Every one of us started knowing very little about the hobby but have progressed over the years. We have become experts in our own fields in miniature, such as carpentry (building the baseboards), electricians (signalling), decorators (painting scenery), civil engineers (bridge building), etc, etc, not forgetting, of course, our very own O.V.S Bulleid to build the trains themselves.
If you are interested in joining us or finding out more about the club, please visit the lower information stand (in the Channel Suite) or the demonstration stand on the balcony overlooking the main hall so that we can give you more details and show you what you are missing.
As always, I would like to thank, on behalf the club, Hornby, who are outside the hall on the Leas, and Fleischmann who are on the stage, for their support in bringing you this exhibition.
Last but not least, I would like to thank the volunteers and helpers from other clubs, Folkestone MRC members and their long suffering partners for their encouragement and assistance throughout this weekend.
I hope you enjoy your visit and look forward to seeing you again next year (4th/5th October 2008).
